Leadership at Mornington Park Primary School
Mornington Park Primary School is proudly led by a team of experienced and passionate educators who bring deep knowledge, strong leadership and an unwavering commitment to our students and community.
Our Principal, Kath Lord, has been leading Mornington Park Primary School since 2024, following eight years as Assistant Principal. Kath’s connection to the school runs even deeper, she first walked through the gates as a student in the 1980s, sitting in the very same classrooms as many of our children today. With over 40 years of connection to the school community, Kath brings an extraordinary understanding of Mornington Park’s culture, values and history. Her leadership is grounded in a strong belief that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed, feel supported and be proud of their school.
Working alongside Kath is Assistant Principal, Stacie McCullough, who shares the same strong commitment to students, families and the broader school community. Kath and Stacie provide calm, capable and highly experienced leadership, ensuring Mornington Park Primary School continues to grow, innovate and thrive.
Supporting the improvement of teaching and learning across the school is our Learning Specialist, Carolyn Larsen, who works closely with staff to strengthen classroom practice and ensure every student receives high quality instruction.
Mornington Park Primary School is a dual-stream school, offering families a unique choice of educational approaches. One stream follows the Victorian Curriculum mainstream program, while the other is guided by Steiner educational philosophies, which emphasise creativity, imagination and holistic development. Each stream is supported by dedicated planning teams that focus on initiatives tailored to their approach. Frankie Curtis leads the Mainstream team, while Jodie Hollands leads the Steiner stream, ensuring both programs flourish and remain true to their educational philosophies.
In 2026, Mornington Park Primary School further strengthened its commitment to student wellbeing with the implementation of the Mental Health in Primary Schools (MHiPS) initiative, led by Nathan Sturma. Through this program, the school enhances its capacity to support students’ social and emotional development and promote positive mental health. The role also supports staff through professional learning and guidance, helping ensure our classrooms remain safe, inclusive and supportive environments where every child can thrive.
Together the leadership team ensures Mornington Park Primary School is forward thinking and student focused.
Teaching Staff
A major strength of Mornington Park Primary School is the depth of experience among our teaching staff. Many of our teachers bring more than a decade of classroom experience, ranging from early childhood to senior secondary education. This provides students with highly skilled and confident educators. This breadth of experience enriches our classrooms, allowing teachers to draw on a wide range of teaching strategies, perspectives and expertise to support every learner.
Student Leadership
At Mornington Park Primary School, student voice matters. We believe that students should play an active role in shaping their school community, and we provide many opportunities for them to develop leadership skills and contribute to school life.
Each year, students are selected by their peers and teachers to take on important leadership roles. Our School Captains proudly represent Mornington Park Primary School at events, welcome visitors to the school and work closely with the leadership team to help improve and strengthen our community.
Beyond our School Captains, we offer a wide range of specialised leadership opportunities so that many students can contribute their strengths and interests. These may include leadership roles in Craft, Music, Physical Education, Environment, Reconciliation and Community programs. Students in these positions work alongside the School Captains to support school initiatives and help lead activities across the year.
Our Student Voice Leaders also play an important role by gathering feedback from their classmates and representing student ideas. They lead our Student Representative Council (SRC), which includes representatives from every class and provides students with a genuine platform to share ideas, discuss improvements and help shape the future direction of the school.
Through these opportunities, Mornington Park Primary School empowers students to become confident leaders, thoughtful decision makers and active members of their community.
