All mathematical lessons follow the Mornington Park Model of Instruction, which includes a tuning in activity, daily review, explicit teaching, time for exploration where students can practice and apply their learning, before concluding with reflection and a summary to consolidate key concepts and understanding.

This approach allows our students to learn more effectively and efficiently as their brains learn to process, store, and retrieve knowledge and skills when required.

We use an activity based approach to numeracy with extensive use of concrete materials in all year levels. A hands-on problem solving approach with real life situations enables students to increase reasoning and understanding.  We consider the students brain to be the most powerful tool but, at times, use ICT and calculators to support and enhance their learning in all areas of mathematics. 

Our explicit, systematic teaching of numeracy helps learners develop the mathematical understanding and critical thinking skills needed to succeed in school, work, and everyday life, while empowering students to make informed decisions in an increasingly data-driven world.
