Word from the principal
Welcome to the Mornington Park Primary School website.
Situated on the north-east side of Mornington, 14 kilometres from Frankston and a further 42 kilometres from Melbourne, Mornington Park was established in 1972 as Tanti Park Primary School and changed to its current name in 1999.
In the past the school has drawn its students from the immediate area known as Tanti Park Estate and to a smaller extent from the nearby Padua and St. Mitchell’s Estates as well. However, the implementation of alternative programming, such as the Steiner and Leap into Learning programs, has attracted families from far and wide and from up to 20 kilometres away.
The Steiner program was introduced in 2003 at the early years level and has grown steadily as new preps have been enrolled annually.
The school is proud of its dual curriculum.
In the mainstream we have a tradition of providing an extensive and comprehensive educational program based on the Victorian Essential Learning Standards with a particularly strong focus on literacy and numeracy.
In the Steiner stream we deliver our program with care and dedication to the philosophies that underpin the curriculum. We employ a highly regarded mentor to work with our College of Teachers to maintain the integrity of our program.
Both streams benefit from a school wide emphasis on physical education and physical development and state wide time commitments are met in this area with the facilitation of our full-time P.E. teacher.
The school grounds provide a variety of hard-court and grass play spaces. Junior and senior playground equipment is well maintained and we have an expanding vegetable garden and a variety of fruit trees. Parent support to improve and develop our school grounds in the past five years has been outstanding.
The school has exceptional I.T. resources available for our mainstream classes and the library and literature materials are cherished by all.
It is the school’s aim to build skills, attitudes and values in our students that will enable them to reach their full potential later in life. We offer a caring and supportive environment in order to meet our aim.
Parents and family members are welcome to participate in all aspects of school life at Mornington Park and their contributions are highly valued.
Our school’s welfare program, support structures and commitment to well-being are embedded in our school culture so that the best possible outcomes are achieved for every child.
